avin Murphy has worked for more than three decades in energy and infrastructure development, engineering, and commercial project management. He is a geothermal development specialist and has extensive experience collaborating with Indigenous Māori communities in New Zealand. A longtime advocate for economic development initiatives and community alignment, Gavin is the Principal Consultant for LUCA, Ltd., and served 6 years as the CEO of Trust Tairāwhiti, a regional community trust in New Zealand with over $900 million in assets and investments, held in Trust for the benefit of their community.
He also oversaw Geothermal Generation, Business Development, and Operations for Eastland Generation, where he managed the identification and development of more than 150 MW of geothermal power plants in New Zealand, among other major energy strategy, infrastructure and investment efforts in his various roles with Eastland where he was instrumental in incorporating the Native to Native Model into all of their developments with Maori land owners Gavin collaborated with Waikā and IDG during the planning, consultation and development phases of two New Zealand geothermal projects (Te Ahi O Maui and Taheke 8C) and then led the bid team from a technical and commercial perspective for the HELCO 25 MW geothermal RFP process in 2011-2016, including spending several months in Hawai‘i developing the final project scope and bid. He currently serves as an advisor for Waikā’s efforts to develop geothermal resources in Hawai‘i. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Auckland.
